Obituary

Edna Mae “Edna Mama” Whitfield Abel, 95, of Enigma passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Mark Stone and the Rev. Zach Abell officiating. Mrs. Abel will be laid to rest at Enigma Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Lee Burgess, Rick Maluda, Keith Barfield, Lowel Abell, Jeff Abell and Brian Stone will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Born November 3, 1922 in Ty Ty, Mrs. Abel was the daughter of the late John Whitfield and Bessie Lawrence Whitfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Julian Brown “Jule” Abel, who passed away in 2008 and was a P.O.W. in World War II; one daughter, Billy Karen Abel; one brother, Luther Carl Whitfield; and three sisters. Martha Laverne “Cricket” Land, who passed away in 2013, Willie Mildred “Bill” Henry and Kathleen “Kitty” Harvard. Before retiring, she was a beautician. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Enigma. She served as a Pink Lady at Tift Regional Medical Center and was a member of the Red Hats and Kitchen Band at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Abel is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who were loved as grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift Regional Medical Center, P. O. Box 747, Tifton, GA 31793.
