Obituary

DUE TO THE STORM THE FUNERAL SERVICES ARE RESCHEDULED - SEE BELOW

Ida Jeannette (Ferrell) Orrell was born July 9th, 1931, at 112 Chestnut Street, Duxbury MA, in the house her father built, and passed away on December 30th, 2017 at the age of 86. Her parents were Ida W. (Salsman) of Country Harbour Nova Scotia, and William N. Ferrell of New York. Raised near the ocean, she worked at the family clam business and Clara’s Coffee Shop before graduating from Duxbury High School in 1950, and developed a love for salt water and the sea breeze that remained through her life.

While working as a coordinator for the Red Cross in Boston in the early 1950’s, she met her future husband Dean H. Orrell on an Easter Sunday at Tremont Temple. He was a Navy Radioman from Imperial Nebraska assigned to a ship based in Charlestown.

Jeannette and Dean were married on August 2nd, 1954 in Uxbridge, MA, the Rev. J. Tamraz officiating. They had four children and the family lived in Duxbury, Nebraska and New Bedford before settling on Pond Street in Franklin where she lived for 54 years.

Jeannette and Dean owned Dean’s Citgo Auto Service on Rt. 109 in Medway from 1970 to 1977. Dean was a mechanic trusted by all, while she kept the books for the business at which the whole family worked. Along with other jobs, she served as a cafeteria worker at Franklin High School in the 90's and during the 60’s, also led children's Bible study events in her home.

She was a Christian with faith in God which was imparted to her children through her example. Freely giving her time serving people and caring for others, she brought food to shut-ins, visited nursing homes, and gave many rides to church and appointments. She would help when she could and lift in prayer those that were hurting.

She enjoyed gardening with her husband – together they grew a great variety of vegetables and flowers. She wasn't much for TV, but got a kick out of Quark on Deep Space 9 and often laughed about him and his mother. Jeannette remained living in her own home until a few days prior to her death at Medway Country Manor. She had a special moment with Cassandra Orrell the night before her death, which will be long treasured by her granddaughter.

Burial will be at Mayflower cemetery in Duxbury at the side of her husband who died in 2004. She is predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Merritt Ferrell of Plymouth, MA, and Lloyd Ferrell of Duxbury, MA. who are also buried there.

She is survived by four children: Dean Orrell II & wife Jennifer of Katy, TX, Gary Orrell & wife Laurie of Bellingham, MA, Don Orrell & wife Pam of Mansfield, MA, and Glenn Orrell & wife Lorelie of Franklin, MA, and a foster son, Wayne Becker of Natick, MA. She also has 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
