Obituary

Jean E. Allen, 89, formerly of Litchfield, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members Friday, December 29, 2017, in the Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH. She was born in Arlington, MA on Easter, April 8, 1928, a daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Kenney) King. Jean was a long-time resident of Arlington and lovingly raised her family here. She was a dedicated Mom and grandmother who was quick to offer encouragement and support to anyone in need. She was at her happiest in the presence of family and graciously hosted many family gatherings at Newfound Lake and in Naples, Maine.

Faith was an integral part of Jean’s life. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church while living in Arlington and later the United Methodist Church in Naples and the Litchfield Community Church. She enjoyed the friendships made as a member of each church and especially looked forward to the Litchfield women’s bible study group.

Jean and Ken shared a special relationship and were married for 53 years. Their love was an inspiration for all that knew them. Upon retirement Jean and Ken relocated to Naples, Maine and later Litchfield, New Hampshire.

She is survived by her three sons, John Allen and Jamie Cypher of Otisfield, ME, Thomas Allen and his wife Ann of Manchester, NH, and David Allen and his wife Lisa of Londonderry, NH; one daughter, Susan Smith and her husband Brian of Litchfield, NH, a foster daughter, Mary Lyman and her husband Ed of Westford, MA; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Allen in 2001, daughter-in-law, Pitiya Allen, a grandson, Derek Lyman and her siblings, Ruth McKeown, John King and George King.

Calling hours were held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry with a funeral service that began at 7:00pm in the funeral home. Cremation followed. Jean will be laid to rest with her husband Kenneth in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH, in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
