Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Calvert, 93, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into rest Friday, December 23, 2017, at Augusta Gardens Assisted Living Community.

Betty was a native of Flint, Michigan, where she trained for a nursing career at Hurley Hospital in the early 1940’s. She married Courtney Calvert in 1945 and raised a family while moving with his career path to various locations in Michigan and Indiana before settling once again in the Flint area in 1964. Betty worked as a Registered Nurse at Flint Osteopathic Hospital for many years before joining the Visiting Nurses Association in the late 1970’s, serving home-bound patients. In 1989, she relocated with Courtney to Augusta to be near much of the family.
Betty enjoyed the company of family and friends, playing card games, reading mystery novels, and spending summer months at the family’s lake cottage in northern Michigan.

Her husband Courtney preceded her death nearly a decade ago and now they have been reunited. Betty is fondly remembered with much love and gratitude for her service, kindness and infectious laugh by her family which includes: two daughters: Gail (Glen) Anderson of Wrens, Kathleen (Gray) Moore of Augusta; three sons: Craig (Beverly) Calvert of Augusta, John (Kimberly) Calvert of Flushing, Michigan, Philip (Ana Maria) Calvert of Cumming, Georgia; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Augusta Gardens for their kind and compassionate care as well as the other residents for their consideration and companionship.

A Memorial Service will be held at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Donations and memorials may be made to Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, 2372 Lumpkin Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
