Obituary

Bayne Peckham, 93, of Pawcatuck died Sunday, December 10,2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Phyllis Peckham, who died in 2002.

He was born on January 4, 1924 in Newport, Rhode Island, the son of Chrisopher and Elsie (Head) Peckham. He grew up in Portsmouth and entered the U.S.Navy in 1943. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946, after serving in active combat on the aircraft carrier, the USS Bataan. He later attended Bentley College of Accounting and Finance, graduating in 1962. He and his wife, Phyllis started their family in Portsmouth RI and later moved to New Hampshire, Vermont and finally settled in Mystic.

Bayne was a quiet and truly honest man who worked hard his whole life. He owned a successful accounting firm and served many clients. He had a great interest in horses and attended numerous horse shows. He was a devout Episcopalian and attended church wherever he lived. He was a member for many years at St. Marys in Portsmouth, St. Marks in Mystic and finally at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wood River Junction RI. In his retirement, he and his wife Phyllis traveled extensively for 12 years in their RV seeing the country.

Bayne is survived by his son Stuart Peckham and his wife Dana of Pawcatuck with whom he made his home for the last 20 years, and his daughter Robyn Szeligowski and her husband Edward of Virginia Beach, VA, as well as three grandchildren, Christopher M. Peckham of California, Taylor M. Szeligowki, and Morgan L. Solórzano and her husband Enrique all of Virginia. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his brother Calvin Peckham.

His family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 19, from 5 to 7pm with a prayer service being held at 6:30pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be conducted on Wednesday, December 20, at 11am in St. Mary's Cemetery, 324 East Main Street, Portsmouth RI 02871.
