Kenneth F. Parry of Duxbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the age of 88. Ken was the husband of his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth A. (Nash) Parry.
Born on April 11, 1929 in Quincy, MA. Kenneth was the son of Clayton W. Parry and Louise (Jones) Parry. He survived by his three children, Marcia L. Crawford and her husband, Robert D. Crawford of Norwell, Scott F. Parry and his wife Kathleen of Duxbury and Mark Parry of Weymouth; five grandchildren, Liana Crawford of Rockland, Alexander Crawford of Hanson and Meghan. Caitlin and Kyle Parry of Duxbury; three brothers, Clayton W. Parry of Weymouth, Robert D. Parry of Orleans, Raymond D. Parry of Maine and Oldsmar, FL and one sister, the late Ruth L. Perrault of Lakeville.
Ken grew up in Quincy and Braintree. He achieved the Eagle Scout Award at an early age. He graduated from Braintree High in 1946. Ken was a Veteran in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy Technical Training Command. He also served in the SEABEES, the United States Naval Construction Battalion.
Ken received a Degree in Architectural Construction graduating with highest honors from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. He earned an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, Lincoln Institute, Boston, MA, and a Degree in Architecture from the Boston Architectural Center in Boston, MA. He received his Architectural Registration while he was still in school. Ken received the Ames Fellowship Award from the Boston Architectural Center in 1962. This was a special Travel Fellowship Award to study architecture in Europe after graduation.
Ken was the Principal of Kenneth F. Parry & Associates, Inc., Architects, Weymouth, MA. He designed numerous banks, churches and schools in New England.
Ken was a co-founder of the South Shore Christian Academy in Weymouth, MA. He was an advocate for those with special needs. He was instrumental in establishing a program for those with special needs at the Weymouth South High School. He also started a Community Residence in Weymouth, MA for developmentally disabled adults.
Kenneth was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Weymouth, MA and in recent years the Community Baptist Church in Weymouth, MA. During his years at the First Baptist Church in Weymouth, Ken served as a faithful leader. He served on the Deacon Board, Board of Christian Education, Vision Committee, taught Sunday School for over thirty years and was a church song leader. One of his cherished church ministries was “Outward Bound”. Ken and his wife Ruth led a group of young people 18-25 years of age in a weekly Bible Study at their home. He organized a number of trips with his “Outward Bound” group such as, hiking and camping in the White Mountains, mountain climbing, skiing Tuckerman’s Ravine, Nantucket, white water rafting and bike trips.
Ken enjoyed traveling with his wife Ruth. Throughout his life, they traveled around the country, Europe and enjoyed a world cruise.
A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Community Baptist Church, 17 Mutton Lane, Weymouth, MA. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date and will be private.
