Obituary

Albert Brandsma of Canton, formerly of Natick, passed away at his home on November 29th at the age of 87. Born and raised in Hoorn, the Netherlands, Albert served in the Dutch Merchant Marines, which brought him to Canada in 1952. He worked as a chef for the railroad before moving to the United States in 1958. He traveled the world while working as a chef on Holland America Lines. Al then worked as a chef at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. After leaving the Wayside Inn, he went to work for the Papa Gino's corporate office in Needham for 26 years. He started in the commissary and advanced to Manager of Office Services. Albert loved ballroom dancing, which he did 3-4 times a week until he turned 80. Along with being known for his French Fries and creatively garnished potato salad, he will also be remembered for being kind, generous, and a devoted father and grandfather. Loving father of Erika Brandsma of Salt Springs, FL and Kirsten B. and her husband Ronald Hughes of S. Weymouth. Dear brother of Wim Brandsma and the late Bart and Homme of the Netherlands. Also survived by his grandchildren Robert and Brett Frost of CA, and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours in the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington St., Canton on Wednesday 4-7 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 PM. Interment Private.
