Obituary

Richard V. Maietta of Medford died on Tuesday, November 28, at Massachusetts General Hospital. A lifelong Medford resident, he was the son of the late Saverio and Catherine (Parziale) Maietta. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and the corner of Shapely St. and Bow St. in Medford was renamed "Maietta Brothers Corner" in honor of Richard's and his brothers' military service. Richard later owned and operated Sam's Supermarket and a butcher shop in Medford.

Richard was the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Lennon) Maietta, and the devoted father of Joan M. Kurker of Medford and her late husband, the Honorable James K. Kurker, Mayor of Medford, Richard V. Maietta Jr. and his wife Janelle of Salem, NH, Robert W. Maietta, and Susan M. Maietta, both of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Jason Kurker and Brooke Longo of Medford, and Sam and Jackson Maietta of Salem, NH, and dear brother of Ines Brignolo and her husband Joseph of Medford, Corrine Young of Reading, and the late Pasqulena, Antonio, Joseph, Horace, Saverio, William, Marie, and Catherine. Richard is also survived by many, many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Saturday, December 2 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours Friday, December 1 from 4 through 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Richard's name to a charity of One's choice.
