Obituary

Dorothy S. (Manzi) Tarani, of Winchester, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 25th at the JML Care Center in Falmouth. She was 87.

Born and raised in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Marion (Laverde) Manzi. Dorothy graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1948. She and her husband Edmund were married the following year on April 24, 1949, in St. Clement Church, Medford. Together the two build their family with love and devotion.

Dorothy worked as a clerk at Tufts University in the accounting office. She later went to work for the Town of Winchester’s police department as a crossing guard. She served the Winchester community for 25 years. After retiring from the Town of Winchester, she worked part-time for Panel Operations, as a marketing telephone surveyor.

A devout Catholic, she lived her life in accordance with Christian values: faith, hope and charity. She had a special devotion to our Lady and St. Anthony. Dorothy was a kind person who did her best to help those around her.

In her spare time she enjoyed cooking. Her favorite type of food to make was Italian and her children’s favorite dish was her “stacks,” also known as eggplant parmesan. She loved cleaning her home and took great pride in caring for both her home in Winchester and Martha’s Vineyard. Dorothy enjoyed going to the Vineyard and playing cards with family and friends, and always looked forward to meeting her friends at Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee and socializing. In her earlier years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling to Italy, Germany and Switzerland.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Edmund Tarani, who passed away in 1995. The two shared 46 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Monique Millar and her husband Thomas of Falmouth and Robert Tarani of Woburn. Dorothy was the loving grandmother of Courtney Millar of Connecticut and Christie Millar of Centerville. She was the cherished niece of Eleanor Bazylinski of Rowley and the dear sister-in-law of Adeline Taddeo of Medford. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Manzi, and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Dorothy’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at JML Care Center: Kim, Sherry, Deensha, Pebbles, Billie-Joe and Dotty, for exemplary care and service.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Wednesday, November 29th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Mary Church, 155 Washington Street, Winchester, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's name may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen St., 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA 01701.
