Richard P. Corrado, 84, of Franklin, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Landmark Hospital in the company of loved ones.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Anthony and Olga (Fundaro) Corrado. Mr. Corrado had a comfortable upbringing along with two of his siblings. Mr. Corrado often expressed his love of sports and theatre groups in his school days and was unquestionably one of the more talented and accomplished athletes in school. Mr. Corrado cherished the time spent with family and friends. He often talked about his protection as the oldest son that he had for his sister. That also was apparent in his all inclusive friendships that defined his heart and his way of watching out for other people. He really believed in “America being great again” and his deep love and core beliefs will make us all strive towards doing everything rooted in love.
During his second year at college, he made a decision to join the Army and proudly served during peace time in Germany. It was there that he met his wife Rosemarie of 52 years.
Mr. Corrado grew up in Long Island, New York and raised his family of 5 children with his wife in Milford, Connecticut. He spent the majority of his career working for Entenmann’s Bakery. He enjoyed this job like a second family and proudly retired after 30+ years of service. After Mr. Corrado’s wife’s passing in 2007, he was happiest offering his home to loved ones where his house was filled with favorite foods that reflected his wife’s German heritage, his Italian heritage and of course Entenmann’s pastries.
In his later years, Mr. Corrado moved to Franklin, Massachusetts with health needs where he was cared for by his daughter Linda and her husband Michael. Even in the most difficult days attending to his health, “Poppy” as everyone called him, was still the empathetic, fun loving, humorous person he always has been. Everywhere he went he left a mark and a connection. Mr. Corrado loved a good game of SkipBo, going to Cape Cod with family and enjoying the company of family and friends that were a part of his every day living.
Mr. Corrado was the husband of the late Rosemarie (Krug) Corrado. He is survived by his brother Anthony and wife Joan Corrado of Annapolis, Maryland, his sister Rosemary and late husband David Jensen of Santa Barbara, California, his son Richard Corrado of West Haven, Connecticut, late son Robert and wife Jane Corrado of Orange, Connecticut, daughter Linda and husband Michael Gagnon of Franklin, Massachusetts, daughter Laura Corrado of Waterford, Connecticut, and son Ronald and wife Stella Corrado of Alexandria, Virginia. He is also the Grandfather of Brenton and wife Stephanie Corrado, Christopher and Alyssa Corrado, Brian and Timothy Gagnon, Carolyn Corrado and Caitlyn and Nicole LaSella. He was over the top a Great Grandfather of Alex Corrado. Lastly, he was survived by many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a church service at 10:30 a.m. on December 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, Ct. 06460.
