Edward W. "Red" Santos, 94, of New Bedford died November 18, 2017 peacefully at Hathaway Manor.
He was the husband of the late Eileen M. (Boyle) Santos.
Born and raised in Fall River, the son of the late John and Belmira (Rego) Santos, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was formerly employed by J.C. Rhodes until retirement and previously worked at the Wamsutta Mills.
He was a well known fast pitch softball player pitching for many local teams including the Yankee Clippers and the Outfitters.
Survivors include a son, Edward J. Santos and his spouse Ramon M. Molina of Weymouth; a daughter, Debra J. Binning and her husband William of New Bedford; a son-in-law, Joseph Pacheco of New Bedford; a sister, Evelyn Narcizo of Fall River; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Nancy Ann Pacheco and the brother of the late John Santos, Mary Dolores Fontes, Arthur Rego and Peter Rego.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at St. James Parish at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 21st from 4-8 PM.
