Obituary

Evelyn Joan “Ev” Mahan, 85, a longtime West Roxbury resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2017 after a brief illness with loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late James C. Mahan with whom she shared almost forty years of marriage.

She was born in Holyoke on November 25, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Paul Stec and Helen (Zyra) Stec. Evelyn attended Dean Junior College and began her career at White and Wykoff designing greeting cards, textiles and wallpaper. She moved to Beacon Hill and worked at the Bill Horn Agency.

Evelyn specialized in pen and ink and created fashion ads for local retailers. She is credited with illustrating the original Chutes and Ladders game box cover. in her later years she designed and sewed high quality flags. Evelyn continued to paint throughout her life and passed on her love of art to her two grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Jamie Vickers and her husband Daniel of West Roxbury and Karen Lothrop and her husband Jonathan of Dover, her grandchildren Jonathan “Jack” and Hannah Lothrop also of Dover, and her aunt Stasia Chwalek of Chicopee.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 24 at 10am in the chapel at St. Theresa’s Church, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private.
