Karen L. Compton, 72

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Karen L. (Unger) Compton, age 72, of Mansfield, formerly of North Attleboro passed away peacefully, with her loving children by her side on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro.

Born in Attleboro, MA on May 15, 1945, she was a loving daughter of Vivian B. (Allaire) Unger of Mansfield and the late John D. Unger, Jr.

Karen grew up in Mansfield, was a graduate of Mansfield High School and attended beautician schools.

A resident of Mansfield for many years, Karen had also made her home in North Attleboro as well. She had previously worked as a mortgage processor for the Mayflower Corporation, and also as a realtor and as the proud owner of Karen’s Beauty Shop in Plainville.

A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, she was also a parishioner of St. Martha’s Church while living in North Attleboro. She treasured the times spent amongst her adoring family, especially with her grandchildren, whom she was affectionately known as “Nina”

Karen’s hobbies included painting, singing, dancing, sewing, needlepoint, crafts in general, and she will always be remembered for the love she displayed towards animals, especially her dogs.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her devoted children Sean R. Compton and his wife Tracy of North Attleboro, and Amy E. McCue and her husband Michael of Mansfield. She was the dear sister of Gail E. McElroy and her husband Robert of Raynham, Susan J. Rafferty of Mansfield and Vivienne Steinbock of Gloucester. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Patrick, Allaire and Olivia McCue, and Alyssa and Belle Compton, as well as several generations of nieces and nephews.


Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, November 17th at 11:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield


Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 16th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Karen’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 25, Mansfield, MA 02048.
