Obituary

Retired Corrections Officer, Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, Joseph J. "Jay" Fitzpatrick, a 18 year resident of Norton and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 57 years of age.

Jay was born in Somerville on February 25, 1960, a son of the late Joseph T. "Jopa" Fitzpatrick and Margaret "Margie" (Upton) Fitzpatrick. He grew up in Dorchester where he attended St. Ambrose Parochial School before moving to Charlestown and graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School in 1978. Jay worked as a Corrections Officer for The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and retired following 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed traveling to Diamond Pond in Colebrook, New Hampshire where he hunted and fished and also enjoyed listening to country music. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Blue Knights.

Jay is the beloved husband of 18 years to Jean M. (D'Onofrio) Fitzpatrick. He is the devoted father to Brittany Precourt and her husband Nicholas, Thomas Durden III, Brooke Durden and Jennifer and Joseph. He is the loving Papa to Kaia, Valentina and his many other grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Daniel Fitzpatrick and his wife Pam, Dana Fitzpatrick and the late Dawn Ferreira. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's Funeral on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mansfield. His visiting hours will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
