Obituary

Betty A. (Humphrey) Joannides, 87, of Franklin, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Maples Rehab. & Nursing Center in Wrentham. She was the beloved wife of Philip G. Joannides who died in 2007.

Born in Burke, Vermont on May 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Bion and Kathleen (Paton) Humphrey.

Mrs. Joannides was a resident of Franklin since the 1960’s. She grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School and Suffolk University.

Before her retirement, she co-owned along with her husband, Franklin Warehousing & Distribution, a business they started in 1972 and grew to eleven different locations in several area towns.

Mrs. Joannides volunteered for the Franklin Little League, played in the former Franklin Women’s Softball League and was a member of the Franklin Republican Town Committee. She was also an avid reader and cherished time spent with her family.

She is survived by three sons; George B. Joannides and his wife Janet of Franklin, Philip B. Joannides and his wife Jimi of Orlando, FL and Lucas A. Joannides and his wife Cheryl of Wrentham and a daughter Leslie A.E. Joannides-Burgos and her husband Wigberto Burgos of Franklin. She was the mother of the late Kathleen Joannides-Clark.

She is also survived by; a sister Barbara Roberts of Florida, a brother Bion “Jack” Humphrey of Jonesboro, GA, eight grandchildren; Jennifer Casey, Jessica Tartufo, Jacob and Joshua Joannides, Nicole and Alexandra Clark and Cesar and Nicholas Burgos, four great-grandchildren; Anna, Brett and Kate Casey and Jack Tartufo and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Kathleen Morizzio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, November 5 from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday, November 6 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers; Betty's family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
