Obituary

WEBSTER – Edward Konkel, 92, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge. His wife of 65 years, Janet S. (Zajac) Konkel, died July 14.

He leaves a son, Robert E. “Bob” Konkel of Fairhaven; 2 grandchildren, Robert E. “Bob” Konkel, Jr. and Savannah Konkel Montiero; a great-granddaughter Kaitlin; a brother, Henry Konkel and a sister, Pauline Armstrong, both of Webster; his extended family, Phyllis, Alison and Megan, whom he loved like his own children; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Konkel, William “Bushey” Konkel and Robert Konkel.

He was born in Webster, a son of John and Katherine (Majewski) Konkel and lived here all his life. He attended Webster Trade School.
Mr. Konkel first worked in the family building business, Konkel Brothers. He then was an employee of Harvey & Sons Construction in Worcester for 17 years, retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, horseback riding and gardening. He liked traveling and even spent half a year in Alaska on 2 occasions as well as backpacking in the Southwest.. He was a fan of the New England Patriots, which he enjoyed watching with Bob, Jr. and Megan.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 3, at 11:00 AM in Mount Zion Cemetery, Worcester Road, Webster. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Friday in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, pior to the service. Donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 (alz.org)
