Obituary

Portland – Cheryl Diana Johnson, 57, passed away peacefully on October 24th, 2017 at the Barron Center in Portland, Maine after a brave yearlong battle against pancreatic cancer.

Cheryl was born on March 27th, 1960 to Carl and Diana Grindle in Portland, Maine. She attended schools in Portland and the University of Southern Maine. She was champion for those less fortunate and worked many years for those that suffered from disabilities and the elderly. She was a caring soul with a fiery spirit and she watched over those she loved and called friends.

Cheryl was avid music fan, dancer, reader and explorer of the world. She loved to spend time with her family and traveled the United States and made homes and friends wherever she traveled. She lived life on her terms and though times could be tough, carried a spirit of determination and of love for those close to her.

She is predeceased by her father, Carl E. Grindle and her grandparents John and Lorena Knight. She is survived by her mother, Diana L Grindle, four brothers and three sisters, her children Heather and Jeffrey Harmon, Au-tumn and Richard Nye and Joseph and Ofelia Wilcox. She took great joy in her 8 grandchildren Jeffrey Harmon, Jr. , Alexavier Harmon, Maximus Harmon, Donaven Harmon, Aiyana Harmon, Eleanor Nye, Joelia Wilcox and Loren Wilcox.

She will leave a lasting spirit of independence and love to all she touched.

Cheryl was also an animal lover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland in her name.

Services will be held at VFW Deering Memorial Post 6859, 687 Forest Ave, Portland, ME 04103 on November 2, 2017 at 6:00pm.
