Margaret M. (Eldridge) Doherty, a 42 year resident of Medford and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her home in Medford. She was 87 years old.
Margaret was born in Chelsea on May 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Walter R. Eldridge and Mildred A. (Hickey) Eldridge. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1947. Margaret began working for the New England Telephone Company as an Operator and retired as a Clerk following 38 years of dedicated employment. She enjoyed crocheting and most important in her life was her family especially her grandchildren and she took great pride in each one of their accomplishments. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Of America and the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Margaret is the beloved wife of the late Bernard L. "Ben" Doherty. She is the devoted mother of Paul Doherty and his late wife Cindy, Bernard L. Doherty Jr. and his wife Marta, Marie Doherty, Neil Doherty and his wife Kathy and also Ceci Doherty. She is the loving Nana to Terrence Doherty, Caitlin Doherty, Mary Mindlin and her husband Evan, Jim Doherty, Christine Doherty, Sheila Doherty, Ryan Doherty, Connor Doherty and her great-grandson Ben. She is the beloved sister of the late Walter "Bud" Eldridge, Theresa Finigan and Joseph Eldridge. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Margaret's Funeral on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at the Veteran's Administration National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45 P.M. Her visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
