Obituary

James Joseph " Jim" Dillmon, 71, Anderson, passed away on October 14, 2017 at AMG Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness.
Jim was born on July 24, 1946, to Walter Robert and Thelma Fern (Hornbaker) Dillmon. He married Sandra L. Parrish March 1, 1968.
He was a 1964 graduate of Daleville High School and went on to attend Ball State University, where he received his Bachelors degree in 1968 and his Masters Degree in Education in 1972. He began his teaching career in 1969 at Highland High School and continued teaching History and Economics for 30 years, retiring in 2001. Jim was a 30 year member of the AFT, served as president, COPE Chairman and an ombudsman. He was also a member of the IFT and National Federation of Teachers. He was a 35 year member of the Elks #209, and was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was a 23 year member of the Daleville American Legion and member of the Muncie Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Highland Band Boosters, the Athletic Boosters, coached 7th grade football, and also coached and umpired baseball for Chesterfield Little League.
Along with his wife he is survived by his 3 sons; Joseph Dillmon, Jason (Hannah) Dillmon, and Jeff Dillmon all of Anderson, 3 grandchildren; Sydney Dillmon, James "Jay" Dillmon, and Madalynn Mercer; a brother, Walter "Robert" (Shirley) Dillmon, and 2 sisters, Neva "Kathy" (Peter) Sorensen, and Patricia "Pat" Vanderbur; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Anna Dulaney; brother-in-law David (Paula) Parrish; and life long friends Denny and Sandy Donovan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Robert Parrish, Mother-in-law, Lena Parrish, brother Richard Dillmon, brothers-in-law Jack Vanderbur and Preston Dulaney and sister in law, Betty Gregg Dillmon.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1PM at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will follow at the Hawk Cemetery in Yorktown.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4-8 PM at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
Memorial Contributions may be given to GPA- Indy (Greyhound Rescue)
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and staff of AMG Hospital, Muncie, and the ER and ICU doctors and nurses of St. Vincent Anderson for their support and care.
