Obituary



Nancy (Smith) Pike, also remembered as Anne Marie, age 86 of North Easton, died Wednesday October 11, 2017 at the Guardian Center after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Albert T. Pike.

Nancy was born and raised in Providence, RI a daughter of the late Charles and Marcella (Conboy) Smith and had lived in Easton for the past 18 years under the loving care of her daughter Jane and her husband Robert. Previously she had resided in Brockton for many years.

She was a proud 1948 graduate of Saint Patrick’s High School in Providence and had taken college courses in her later years. Nancy spent her career as an executive secretary. She worked for many years as the executive assistant to the owner of Mercury Metal Products in Abington. Nancy retired after working for the medical staff at Morton Hospital, but then took on a new challenge as a legal secretary until she was 75 years old.

Nancy was an active member of Holy Cross Church for 20 years where she was involved with the Parish Council, taught CCD to the children and volunteered for other church activities until her illness. When living in Brockton she was a communicant and active parish member of St. Edward Church.

In her free time, Nancy enjoyed playing Mahjong and attending meetings of the Red Hatitudes of Brockton. Nancy also loved to travel and was well-read. She previously had been a volunteer at Old Colony Hospice.

Nancy will be remembered as a gregarious woman who could talk to anyone. She was friendly, outgoing, and well-informed on current events. She especially cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was dedicated to her extended family.

Nancy was the mother of Stephen T. Pike and his wife Maureen of Brockton, Kathleen Johnson of Abington, Jane Pike-Benton and her husband Robert W. Benton, Jr. of Easton, and the late Dennis Pike. She leaves seven grandchildren; Brendan Pike, Jeffrey Pike and his wife Viola, Gregory, Jeremy and Joshua Pike, and Conor and Keara Benton plus five great grandchildren; Mae, Jeffrey, Jr., Kellen, Elarie and Cora. She is predeceased by her brothers Edwin and Charles Smith, Jr. Nancy leaves her dear friend and sister-in-law Wilma Smith of Warwick, RI, a sister-in-law Sheila Smith of Johnston, RI, and a close friend Phyllis Hancock of Brockton.

Nancy’s family would like to thank the “Angels on Earth” at Old Colony Hospice and the Guardian Center for their kind and loving care of their mother.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Monday 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30am for a funeral Mass at Holy Cross Church, South Easton at 10 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
