Obituary

Gilford-----Marlene Gordon 85, of Lake Shore Road died, Friday, October 13, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Marlene had a very positive outlook on life by always finding the good in people. Her glass of life was not half full but a continuous flow of good deeds and good thoughts. She had an incredible sense of humor and the unique ability and thoughtfulness to lift us up when things became too difficult and put us on the right path......her extended family reigned supreme.

Marlene was born at the Clover Hill Hospital in May 9, 1932, the fourth daughter to Esther and Irving Davis of 54 Olive Avenue in Lawrence, Ma. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1949, and MacIntosh School of Business. Marlene worked for many years at Western Electric in Haverhill, Ma as an early computer card coder. She frequently noted that their giant computer took up the space of two large rooms.

In 1980, Marlene opened an antique shop with her husband and son, Bruce, on route 3 in Meredith that continued for over 21 years. Marlene was an avid antique dealer and collector who was quoted on television that, "Collecting antiques is like eating popcorn. Once you start it's difficult to stop." A very well- known shop with an excellent reputation for the quality that Marlene insisted they offer to customers and collectors from all over the United States. Marlene also was instrumental in establishing the Gordon's Auction and worked in packing, unpacking and displaying the items that were presented to the public.

Marlene is the wife of Charlie Gordon whom she married 66 years ago on August 8, 1951.

Marlene's family lived first in Lowell, Mass, then opportunity took them to Concord, N.H., Meredith, N.H. and finally to Gilford, N.H. where she passed away in the comfort of her home being cared for by her devoted family after a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's disease. Special mention to her sons Bruce who took exceptional care of his Mother far and beyond any expectations as her primary caregiver and Larry who was extremely helpful and equally attentive and caring.

Marlene was a Cub Scout Den Mother, was instrumental in starting a group from the Concord Temple's Sisterhood, donating coats, shoes and other necessities to a Drop In center, volunteered at both the Concord Hospital and the New Hampshire Hospital where she befriended a woman for over 40 years.

Marlene was the Concord city Co-Chairwoman for the Edward Muskie for President campaign. Marlene booked Senator Muskie for an appearance at a local supermarket. He was a half hour late because, if you remember, he was accused of shedding a tear defending his wife from the Union Leader's accusations. Marlene also ran for office in her ward that same year.

She was one of the original group from Temple B'Nai Israel that began serving lunch at the Salvation Army in Laconia and that lunch still continues today. One of her favorite activities was riding the rolling coaster at Canobie Lake Park and often would go on it 2 or 3 times in one visit. Fast cars also held her interest.

Marlene and her family spent many enjoyable years at her summer home at Cummings Cove on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, N.H. She often invited many of her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to visit during this time and enjoyed shopping, eating ice cream, swimming, watching them learn how to water ski and taking good care of them.

The family thanks Heidi, Kathy, Rosemary and Amy Of Hospice for their compassion, care and kind words.
