Obituary

WEBSTER – Claire I. (Columbus) Nicholson, 97, of Golden Heights, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 in Webster Manor after a brief illness. Her husband of 62 years, Donald J. Nicholson, died in 2002.

She leaves a son, Donald P. Nicholson and his wife Hedy Nicholson of Dudley; her beloved granddaughter, Laurie Edelman and her husband Larry of Stow; her cherished great-granddaughter, Carley Edelman; a sister, Arlene Pariseau of Webster; a brother-in-law, Rudy Conti of Webster; nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews who will miss her dearly, especially Debbie Doyle her “buddy”. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul Columbus and Ralph Leman and by her sisters, Beatrice Daigneault, Gladys Skeffington, Madeline Ellis, Mary Frances Watkins and Evelyn Conti.

She was born in Oxford, a daughter of Paul and Mable (Leman) Columbus.

Mrs. Nicholson was a furniture assembler at Ethan Allen Company in Dudley retiring in 1977.

Claire was an active member of United Church of Christ Federated. She spent many years as a Girl Scout leader. She loved the New England Patriots and the New York Yankees. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit and her love of family.

Her funeral will be held Friday, October 13, at 11:00 AM in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. A calling period will take place from 9:30 AM until the time of the service on Friday. Donations in her name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, a charity she long supported.
