Ethel L. (Ek) Sylvia, age 89, of Brockton, died unexpectedly, October 1, 2017 at Boston Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Warren J. Sylvia, Jr. and a lifelong resident of Brockton. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Carlson) Ek. Ethel was a graduate of Brockton High School, and after raising her children, worked as a seamstress at Ganley’s Clothing Store and retired from the Brockton Courthouse. She enjoyed braiding rugs, creating handmade porcelain dolls, sewing, her yard, spending time with her family, and her pets Tammy and Kitty.
Ethel is survived by three children- Marcia Herbert of Bedford, NH, Roy Sylvia of El Paso, TX and Thomas Sylvia of Brockton; five grandchildren- Jill McKenzie, Anna Sylvia, Scott Sylvia, Danielle Keogh and Michael Sylvia; along with five great grandchildren- Isla, Mikhael, Antonio, Ashlyn, and Maya. She was the sister of the late Ruth Holyoke and Roy Ek.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday from 9-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
