New Bedford – Cristina deMelo, age 86 of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Our Lady’s Haven with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Joseph Joaquim deMelo and the daughter of the late Maria do Rosario (Soares) and Joao Furtado Melo. She was born in Santa Cruz Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores.
She is survived by her sons, John Antonio DeMello and his wife, Cathy of New Bedford and Joseph Paul DeMello and his wife, Mary of Acushnet; 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Adriana Jorge and Maria do Rosario Almeida; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her visiting hours will be Monday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Her funeral services will be Tuesday, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
