Obituary

MARLBOROUGH: David J. Hietala, 56, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Worcester on January 5, 1961 and was pre-deceased by his mother Jane M. Leahy.
David is survived by his longtime companion Gayle S. Hopkins of Marlborough. He was the brother of Steve J. Hietala of Natick and the late Laurie J. Hietala. Also survived by his nephews Michael D. Hietala and Jessie Polk both of Worcester as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
David has been a resident of Marlborough for over 12 years and previously resided in Framingham. He spent his formative years in Wayland and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1979 where he excelled in three sports – football, baseball and basketball. He attended the University of Massachusetts on a football scholarship and played at UMASS in Amherst.
David loved sports especially enjoying all of the New England teams and watching the games. He lived his life to the fullest, had a wonderful sense of humor and touched the lives of many people from all walks of life.
Visitations will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte. 30), Wayland.
His Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 12:00 noon followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
