Obituary

James Luther “Bo” Wright, Jr., 89 of Tifton passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Tift Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Wright at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with a reception following the service.

Born October 14, 1927 in Lake Worth, Florida, Mr. Wright was the son of the late Luther Wright and Vera Speck Wright. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ann Bowen Wright, who passed away in December 2003. His family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1942, where he attended Tulane University. He entered the United States Army in 1946. After discharge from the military, he attended Loyola University College of Pharmacy. After graduation, he came to Tifton in 1952 and entered into business with his Uncle George Wright and cousin, Joel Rainer. He maintained Wright’s Drug Store at 217 Main Street until 1994. Since then, he has helped out some and “hung out” at Moon’s Pharmacy.

Mr. Wright may be recalled as having headed the Salvation Army Service Unit here for 26 years. He helped organize and has served on the Board of Brother Charlie’s Rescue Mission since its inception. He was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.

Mr. Wright is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jamie Wright of McDonough and Sam and Cherie Wright of Tifton; one sister, Kiki Thibaut of Mandeville, Louisiana; his grandchildren and their spouses, Caitlin and Justin Freeman, Emily Wright, Sam Wright Jr., Brentley Yamnitz and Laura Kate Wright; his great-grandson, Jax Freeman; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, including a special cousin, Celeste McNeil.
