Obituary

John Alfred DeCoste age 88 of West Bridgewater, died Friday September 15, 2017 at Life Care of West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Arlene (Rubin) DeCoste. Born in Brockton and raised in Easton, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Margaret (Blunt) DeCoste. John had lived in W. Bridgewater for over 20 years.

A 1947 graduate of Oliver Ames High School, John also received his degree from Bentley College. His career included the position as office manager for several local companies. In addition, John was a tax preparer for many years and had a faithful cliental. During the Korean Conflict, John served in the US Army and was assigned to Fort Hood in Texas.

Baseball was always a huge part of John’s life, and he played during high school and beyond. He had fond memories of his time playing with the Easton Huskies and he loved following the Boston Red Sox. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren as they participated in high school and college athletics.

John will be remembered as a quiet and humble man who cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

John was the father of Elizabeth D Evans and her husband Douglas of Whitefish Bay, WI; Patricia D Guido and her husband Albert of Peabody, MA; Cheryl Reardon of Brockton, MA; Paul Yunits and his wife Sheryl of Greensburg, GA; Joseph Yunits and his wife Karen of Plymouth, MA, and Robert Yunits and his husband Michael Bruce of Middleboro, MA. He also leaves ten grandchildren; Courtney E Henke (Andrew), Lindsay E Black (Jeremy), Bryan T Evans (Katherine), Stephanie Guido, Kathryn Guido, Philip Reardon (Kelli), Steven Kelleher, Stacey Kelleher (Ana Quinn), Shauna Russell (Andrew), and Nicholas Yunits (Alycia). Also survived by his great grandchildren Eddie, Luke, and Emma, and several nieces and nephews. John was the brother of the late Jacqueline DeCouto and the former husband of the late Patricia M DeCoste.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday 9-10:15am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, West Bridgewater at 11am. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in John’s name to the “We Care” Fund for Innovation and Discovery, Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery, 9200 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53226.
