Obituary

Florence Regina (O’Brien) Foley, of Stoneham, formerly of Medford and Charlestown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 14th at the Life Care Center in Stoneham. She was 96.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Hurley) O’Brien. Florence was a proud 1939 graduate of the Girls High School in Boston. She was a ten year employee with Boston Gas before her marriage in 1953 and a twenty-five year employee of Tufts University. Florence also served on the board of Mystic Valley Elder Services.

Florence was the beloved wife of the late Francis William Foley, who passed away in 1997. The two shared forty-four loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Francis W. Foley, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline, Robert P. Foley, all of Woburn and Mary Ellen Foley-Tobin of Wells, Maine. Florence was the loving grandmother of Kathleen, Suzanne, Emily, Katherine and Maggie and the loving great grandmother of Leonard Daniel Gauvin. She was the caring aunt of Maureen O’Brien and Virginia DeAngelis, and is also survived by many loving members of her extended family. Florence was preceded in death by her siblings James, John, Edward, William, Mary, Margaret, Rose and Helen Agnes (Glavin).

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Thursday, September 21st at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 6 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
