Obituary


BUXTON- Carl H. Anderson of Buxton passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Buxton, he was the child of Ernest and Mary Anderson and was one of ten siblings. Carl was raised in Buxton and graduated from Buxton High School.
In high school, he was a member of the basketball team. He was proud to relate that in his senior year he won the York County League Checker Championship. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S Army, becoming an MP. Carl served in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II.
In 1948 he married Barbara Mason, his wife of 60 years. They settled in Buxton to raise their family. Carl's work history included 30 years at Rogers Fiber Company, managing a farm of 30,000 chickens, and ten years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He retired for two years and then took a job at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, where he worked for another decade. At the age of 75, he finally retired for good.
During his life of many decades he wore many hats. He was a wonderful husband and father. He was close to his siblings and extended family.
Carl was a long time active member of the Tory Hill Congregational Church, Buxton. He was liked by everyone, easy to get along with. He was a man of conviction,sometimes stubbornness,both of which served him well. He found it important to maintain social connections with family and friends which also included his church community.
Carl was independent and managed his own affairs to age 92. He resided at home, drove to church, went out to eat, mowed his lawn, and continued to snow blow his driveway.
He is survived by his three children: daughter Jane and her husband Raymond Godin of Epsom, NH and sons Terry Anderson, and Tony Anderson and his significant other Lee Myrbeck; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Paul Bolduc, and Jonathan Godin; two great grandchildren: Carter and Jacob; and sister, Shirley Walker.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters: Beryl, Doris, Arlene, Lawrence, Linwood, William, Clyde and Robert.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, Sept 19, at Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt.22), Buxton. The funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Buxton, UCC (Tory Hill Church) at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 20,2017 followed by the committal service at South Buxton (Tory Hill Cemetery). Reception arrangements to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, Carl has requested that donations be given to the First Congregational Church of Buxton, UCC (Tory Hill Church)Restoration Fund, PO Box 37, Bar Mills, Maine 04004.
