Obituary

Agnew, Edwin J. Jr, of So. Yarmouth, passed away peacefully, on September 13, 2017. Born in Boston, Eddie was raised in Mattapan and was a longtime resident of Randolph. A proud Navy veteran, he served his country during WWII on the U.S.S Andres. Employed for many years by the Boston Gas Co., he was an avid golfer, bowler, and loved playing his harmonica and ukelele. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita E. (McNamara), and the devoted father of Mary Patricia Freitas and her husband Steve of Kingston, Barbara Moore of Milton, Michael Agnew and his wife Karen of Kingston, John Agnew of Weymouth, and Jeanne Murphy of Braintree and her friend Bill Gravina. Brother of Paul Agnew and his wife Helen of Braintree, the late Gerald and James Agnew, Jeanne Ryan, Kathleen Parr, and Mary Patricia Doyle. Loving grandfather of Michael Freitas and his wife Melissa, Daniel Freitas, Jennifer Moore Marshall and her husband Jon. Patrick, Andrew, Christopher, and Julia Moore. Ryan Agnew and his wife Alison. Tyler and Brandon Agnew. Matthew and Brendan Murphy. Loving great grandfather to Katia Freitas. Eddie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Hills Church, Milton, Monday, September 18th at 11 AM, followed by a burial in Milton Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton Sunday 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully appreciated for Ed’s nephews memorial scholarship, which honors two Milton High School seniors who are exceptional leaders and advocates for standing up against bullying.
