Obituary

Jack Gibbs, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, September 14, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. B.J. Funk and the Rev. Dr. Richard Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gibbs was born April 20, 1926, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Charlie & Rebecca Hester Gibbs. He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Gibbs graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1944. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart. Mr. Gibbs worked for the Department of Transportation for 32 years as a senior engineer aide, retiring as a construction surveyor. Mr. Gibbs was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Gibbs of Fitzgerald; a sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Roberts & Bobby of Fitzgerald; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laurine Viola Kollock Gibbs; a sister, Evelyn Clark; and a brother, Henry Gibbs.
