…retired Nurse’s Aid in Cambridge; 101
SOMERVILLE - Mary “Lidia” Mota, age 101, died Thursday, September 14, at Wingate of Andover. On September 12, 2017, she was presented with a proclamation by the Town of Andover as the oldest living citizen in said town, and was the recipient of the "Boston Post Cane."
She was born in St. Michael, in the Azores, Portugal, on October 17, 1915, one of eight children of the late Manuel Silvestro Costa and Maria do Nascimento Silva Costa, and emigrated to America in 1963. She had lived in Somerville the greater part of her life, and worked at the Youville Hospital, formerly Holy Ghost Hospital.
She is survived by two children and their spouses, Virginia Tavares and her husband Anthony of Tewksbury, and Carlos Mota and his wife Eileen of Billerica; four adoring grandchildren, Christopher Tavares and his wife Kelly of Raleigh, NC, Derek Tavares of Worcester, Shannon Mota and Carly Mota both of Billerica; two great grandchildren, Cooper Tavares and Grayson Tavares; her devoted brothers, Maurino Costa and his wife Natalia of Salem, Octavio Costa and his wife Angelina of Burlington; and was predeceased by her siblings, the late Eulalia Carvalho, Amarina Costa, Auxencio Costa, Americo Costa, and Norberto Costa.
Visiting hours Monday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
