Edward E. Powell, 89, of Ty Ty passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ronnie Howell officiating. Mr. Powell will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Powell’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born February 8, 1928 in Violetsville, Maryland, Mr. Powell was the son of the late John Powell and Bessie Virginia Ungelsbee Powell. He was also preceded in death by two sons, David Powell and Chip Edmondson; one son-in-law, Jimmy Tripp; four brothers; and two sisters. He was a retired construction worker and former owner of Powell Brothers Bar and Grill. He was member of Ty Ty Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he received numerous medals while serving in the military. He was a member of the American Legion in Sylvester and loved to play poker and help other people. He had lived in Ty Ty since 1972.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Elmer Ruth Harrell Powell of Sumner; his children and their spouses, Edward Powell, Jr. (Cathy) of Westminster, Maryland, Alvin Powell (Diane) of Ty Ty, Cathy Tripp (Mike Hall) of Ocilla, Christine Kelley (Dr. William Kelley) of Waynesville, North Carolina, Diane Singletary (William) of Poulan, Joseph Powell (Cindy) of Glen Burnie, Maryland, Edward Powell Edmondson of Tifton and Rommie Edmondson, Robert Edmondson and Herbert Edmondson (Linda), all of Ty Ty; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Powell (Romona) of Tampa, Florida and Earl Powell (Sandy) of Woodsboro, Maryland; one sister, Bertha Powell Frederick of Randallstown, Maryland; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
