Augusta, GA - John D. “Kris” Kristensen, 98, husband of 46 years to the late Verna Miles Kristensen, died on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Camellia Walk Assisted Living.
Kris was born on May 30, 1919 in Middletown, CT and was raised in Yonkers, NY. He graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT with a BA in English Literature in 1941 in time to serve four years in World War II, including two years with the First U.S. Army in England and Normandy thru to Germany, collecting 5 battle stars, rising to Captain. In 1948, Kris married Verna Miles of Cincinnati, OH. He retired in 1985 after 38 years with the J.B. White retail organization in New York, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Augusta. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Augusta.
Kris was preceded in death by his parents, Kristen (former Mayor of Yonkers, NY 1950-1962) and Bernice Kristensen, brother, George C. Kristensen, and sister, Peggy Brazier.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn K. Jarvis and husband Reynolds of Augusta, GA, Sandra K. Hill and husband Morris of Baltimore, MD, grandchildren, Susan Scotto and husband Nick of Baltimore, MD, Kristen Hathaway and wife Victoria of Ellicott City, MD, five great grandchildren, niece, Nancy B. Michael and husband Richard of Manakin-Sabot, VA, newphews, Frederick Douglas Brazier and wife Loryn of Richmond, VA, Kent Kristensen and wife Sonia of Winston Salem, NC, first cousin, Doris Finch of Londonberry, NH.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Lynn B. Prather officiating.
