Obituary

Alice V. (Conlin) Stackpole, age 84, of Stoneham, formerly of Winchester and Watertown, passed away on September 9, 2017. She was the wife of the late Philip J. Stackpole, Jr.

Born in Roslindale, she was the youngest of six children of the late Charles H. and Florence M. (Kenney) Conlin. Alice was educated in Watertown and a graduate of Watertown High School. At Watertown High, she was a cheerleader, a basketball star and was known for her keen wit and sense of humor.

Alice married her high school sweetheart, and she and Philip had six children of their own. In Winchester, Alice stayed home to raise the children, and could be found volunteering on many committees, or in the stands of their sporting events. Having lost her own father at the age of 6, Alice felt fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom, and was a loving mother and an adoring aunt. She was the “matriarch” to all of her many nieces and nephews and looked upon as a second mom to those who lost their parents early in life.

As the children grew, Alice joined the work force as a realtor in Winchester, and went on to become a multimillion dollar broker before retirement.

A devout Catholic who donated to many Catholic charities, Alice enjoyed volunteering on various committees at St. Mary’s Church.

In her spare time, she could be found livening things up as the life of the party at her knitting group, and cherished the monthly trips to Louie’s Pizza after the 4PM mass with her church friends.

Mrs. Stackpole leaves behind her children: Philip C. Stackpole and his wife Laura of Winchester, Susan M. Stackpole-Marlin and her husband Glenn of Beverly, Peter R. and his wife Beth of West Newbury, Jeffrey D. and his wife Kathy of Chelmsford, Alison V. Stackpole of Plum Island and Cynthia J. Stackpole of Andover, and her grandchildren: Kyle, Sara, Sean, Amanda, Ella and Jackson.

She was also the sister of Robert Conlin of Milton and the late Florence Rogers, Ann Benshimol, Charles Conlin and Marjorie Baker, and is further survived by too many nieces and nephews to list, as well as many grand-nieces and nephews who were so fond of her.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday, September 14 from 4-8 PM, and again on Friday at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 158 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
