Obituary


Worcester: Albert R. Carlson, 94, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Nancy L. (Peterson) Carlson; two daughters- Pamela and her husband Mark Bakerlis of Sterling and Cynthia and her husband Douglas Anderson of Sutton; a son- James Carlson and his spouse Kevin McConnell of Jefferson; 8 grandchildren- Joel, Erica, Neal, Keri, Jaimie, Nathan, Matthew, and Brianna; 7 great-grandchildren- Cade, Kieza, Leah, Marley, Nathalee, Livy, and Emma; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl E. Carlson and a sister- Gertrude McNiven.

Al was born in Auburn, son of the late Charles and Hilda (Andfolk) Carlson. He graduated from Auburn High School and earned his Associates Degree from Worcester Jr. College. He also took several courses at Princeton University. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained while fighting in the European Theater. He worked as a Project Engineer at the former Norton Co for many years, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of Salem Covenant Church since 1940, where he sang in the church choir, served as a Sunday School teacher and on the Board of Elders and Deacons. In addition, he was the Chairman of several church committees including Christian Education, Worship and Music, Archives, and Evangelism.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Salem Covenant Church 215 East Mountain St. Worcester. Burial will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston. There are no calling hours.
