Obituary

Gunbjorg Egerhei, 95, a longtime resident of South Natick, died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Maryann Morse Healthcare Center in Natick, MA.

Born in 1921 in Kristiansand, Norway, Gunbjorg and her husband Godtfred, emigrated to the United States in 1949 where they settled in Newton Highlands to work and raise their family.

Gunbjorg, was not only an active member of the 1814 Club, but a founding member of the Sons of Norway in Eastern Massachusetts (Norumbega Lodge) where she organized and participated in many social and charitable events. She was also an active member and participant of the John Eliot Church in South Natick where she enjoyed Sunday Services and social gatherings.

Gunbjorg or Bestamor, as she was known to her family and friends was a highly accomplished baker, an expert seamstress and a creative and talented knitter of Norwegian sweaters. She would often lovingly bestow handmade treasures of Norwegian cookies, cakes and sweaters to her family and friends throughout the year. Time spent with family always brought her much happiness and joy, especially her three granddaughters and six great grandchildren.

Gunbjorg loved to travel. She enjoyed her many trips to Norway to visit family and friends as well as her motor home trips across the United States.

Gunbjorg is predeceased by her husband Godtfred Egerhei and their son Thor Egerhei. She is survived by her son Ralph Egerhei and his wife, Chris Cotter Egerhei of Rangeley, Maine, her daughter in law, Jean Egerhei of Natick MA, her grand daughters Sarah Egerhei Pitkin and her husband Tayler of Carlisle, MA, Lara Reyelt and her husband, Brian of Natick, MA, and Jennifer Egerhei Stucchi and her husband, Jim of Holliston, MA. She is also survived by six great grandchildren; Hanna Pitkin, Ava and Olivia Reyelt, and Tea, Greyson and Torin Stucchi.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the Eliot Church in South Natick, 45 Eliot St. Natick, MA.

The John Everett and Sons Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements for a private service.
