Obituary

Rev. Lena Hill-Lawrence departed on August 31, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts after a courageous battle with cancer. Rev. Hill-Lawrence was a longtime resident of Boston, Massachusetts, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina, her place of birth. Rev. Hill-Lawrence is known throughout the East Coast as a city councilor, social activist, community organizer and a minister of the gospel. She embraced life to the fullest while always putting the needs of others before her own. All who were blessed to know Rev. Lena Hill-Lawrence are forever moved by her warm, motherly spirit and charity.

She is survived by her beloved husband Kenneth Floyd Lawrence of Boston, Massachusetts; children Tanya Beaman-Hardaway of Holbrook, Massachusetts, and Byron Beaman of Boston, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Baja R. Beaman, Amira K. Hardaway and Byron A. Nash; great-nephew Zacari Thomas of Boston, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Lisa Rhodes-Beaman and son-in-law, Alan C. Hardaway; sisters, Doris L. Jones and Betty J. Gomes of North Carolina; and a host of nieces & nephews.

Rev. Lawrence touched so many lives during her time that two services will be held in her honor. For all her friends and family in North Carolina. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 911 Park Street, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

For all her friends and family in Boston and Massachusetts there will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ service for Rev. Lena Hill-Lawrence held on (what would’ve been her 73rd birthday), October 17, 2017, at Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue in Milton, Massachusetts from 10 am to 12 pm. All are welcome to attend.
