Obituary

Whearty, Anne O’Kane 84, of Needham (formerly of Dover, NH) passed away on September 4, 2017 at the Tippett Hospice Home in Needham. Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Whearty, Jr for 56 years; loving mother of Thomas J. Whearty, III and his wife Leah of Walpole, Elizabeth and her husband James Hildebrand of Fairfax Station, VA, Margaret and her husband Jeffrey Canha of Woburn, Anne Marie O’Kane and her husband Jeffrey Steiger of Bradenton Beach, FL. Anne is predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Donald O’Kane as well as her sisters Kathleen Duff and Bernadine Alie. She was the proud grandmother of Thomas, William, Alexander, Rebecca and Leah Marie Whearty; Evelyn, James, Catherine, Claire, Joseph and Michael Hildebrand; Lisa, Noelle and Adam Canha. Anne graduated in 1951 from Saint Mary’s High School in Dover, NH. She was a faithful parishioner at Saint Joseph Church for 50 years where she taught CCD for the children with special needs. Longtime Volunteer at Glover Memorial Hospital, former Vice President of the Glover Memorial Hospital Aid Association and former Director of Volunteers at Glover Memorial Hospital. Recipient with her husband, Tom, of the Melick Foundation Award in 2000 where they were noted as “a model of what volunteering is all about”.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Saturday September 9 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8pm in the funeral home. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Anne to Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church 1382 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA 02492 or to the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home, 920 South Street, Needham, MA 02492.
