James “Jim” H. Carey, 86 of Malden passed away peacefully on August 20,2017. Jim was born in Malden on July 20, 1931, son of the late Joseph Francis Carey and Mary Dunn-Carey of Malden Mass.
Jim is survived by five loving children: James H. Carey Jr of Cypress, TX and his wife Sylvie, Kevin M. Carey, his wife Sherrie of Dracut MA, Amanda DeFranzo, and her husband Robert of Pelham, NH, Christopher Carey, and his wife Tina of Rindge, NH, and Mary Irving, and her husband Thomas of Deering, NH.
Following his graduation from Malden Catholic High School, Jim attended Northeastern University and then joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served his country for four years. Upon his discharge, he worked for the Monsanto Chemical Co. and in later years worked in Boston, MA as a photo-chemist for the EG&G Co., a concierge for the Ritz-Carlton House, and an usher for the Fleet Center, until his retirement. In his later years Jim truly enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting antiques and most especially, pursuing his love of dancing!
Jim is also survived by his loving sister Gertrude Carey-Murray of Malden, MA. Seventeen grandchildren: James H. Carey III, Michael Leclerc-Carey, Brenden Leclerc-Carey, Sabrina Leclerc-Carey, Lindsay Hamilton, and her husband Patrick, Steven M. Carey, Grace C. Carey, Danielle DeFranzo, Derek DeFranzo, Heather DeFranzo, Dylan DeFranzo, Ryan Carey, Hannah Carey, Sean Carey, Kayla Irving and Thomas Irving. Four step-grandchildren: Ashley Dumais Nickerson, Jessica Dumais, Corey Dumais, and Nathan Dumais. Three great-grandchildren: Ryder Wells, Lillian Hamilton, and Henry Nickerson, friend and former wife Patricia Carey-Mirley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by siblings: Dr. Joseph Francis Carey Jr, Adele Carey Crosby, Claire Carey Cahill Devine, Leo J. Carey. Grandsons: Corey DeFranzo, and Nicholas S. Carey.
