Sharon M. Wilson
Longtime Andover Teacher

EXETER, NH: Sharon M. Wilson, age 68, a resident of Hampton, NH, formerly of Lowell, passed away at the Exeter Hospital on Monday, August 21, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lawrence on December 29, 1948, she was the daughter of the late George F. Wilson and the late Eileen F. (Hartigan) Wilson.

Sharon was born in Lawrence and raised in Lowell, attended Sacred Heart School and Lowell High, graduating in 1966.

Following graduation, she attended Lowell State College, where she received her B.A. Degree and her M.A. Degree in Education.

Prior to her retirement, Sharon was employed for 37 years by the Andover Public School System.

Sharon was a highly respected member of the Andover High School Social Studies Department, and a former chairperson of the Social Studies Dept. She was also a leader in the first developed interdisciplinary course of American Studies. She also served as chairperson of several Accreditation Committees.

Sharon was well known by many for her love of flowers and gardening. In addition, she enjoyed her book club and social gatherings. Most of all, Sharon loved being by the beach at her home in Hampton, NH and spending time with her family.

Sharon is survived by two siblings, George G. “Garry” Wilson and his wife Sue of Nashua, NH, and Rita M. Macomber and her husband Harold “Hal” of Thornton, NH; also a much loved niece, Julie Bisognano, and nephews, Christopher Wilson, Patrick Wilson, Michael Macomber, Ryan Macomber, and Garrison Macomber, and their spouses, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many family members and friends.

Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 25, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will begin on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack St., Lowell. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. Donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to Power of Flowers Project, www.powerofflowersproject.org.
