FALL RIVER – Almerinda (Benevides) Tavares, age 99, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 23, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Gil Tavares. Born in Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel do Couto & Maria dos Anjos (Couto) Benevides.
Almerinda is survived by her chidren John Oliveira of Canada, Duarte Tavares of Fall River, Hildeberto Tavares of Fall River, Maria Rosa Machado of Canada and Maria Moniz of Fall River; 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her children Gil Oliveira and Manuel Tavares Oliveira.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday here at 8 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael’s Church at 9 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday from 5-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
