Obituary


WORCESTER – John H. O’Gara, 85, of Worcester died Monday, August 21,
2017 after a short illness. He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Grace (Ford); two daughters Dorothy Gomez of Indianapolis, IN , and Mary Tisdell and her husband Michael, of Worcester; two sons, John O’Gara and his wife Coleen of Sterling Heights, MI and Michael O’Gara and his wife Cyndi, of Worcester; a sister, Mary Mahan and her husband Kenneth of Worcester; a sister-in-law Virginia Ford of Paxton; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Caitlin, Sean, Tara Lynn, Olivia, Gavin, Michael, Samantha, Johnathan and Grace; a great grandchild Camden; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother Edward.

He was born in Worcester, the son of Thomas and Ethel (Holt) O’Gara and graduated from Commerce High School. John was a veteran of the United
States Army serving during the Korean War on the main line of resistance. He worked for Worcester Controls for many years. Mr. O’Gara also worked as a roofer in the family business. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. He was a great storyteller, a humorist, a practicing urban archeologist, and a great family man.

Mr. O’Gara’s funeral is Monday, August 28th from with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be private and held at a later date. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 27th from 3:00 until 5:00 PM in Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street.
