Obituary

Carol A. (LaCapria) Colangelo, a long-time Medford resident, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 19th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 77.

Born in Boston, she was raised in Somerville and Medford, and was the daughter of the late Elmo and Susan (Marotta) LaCapria. She graduated from Somerville High School with the class of 1957 and continued her education at Williams College. She earned an associate’s degree in banking and finance. Carol was a financial clerk and worked for Met Credit Union until retirement.

In Carol’s free time, she enjoyed being with her loved ones. She was a family oriented person, who is described as loving, caring and non-judgmental. Carol was a social butterfly. She loved to be in the presence of others, and being out and about. Carol was a sports fan, and loved all of them equally. She would watch any game that was on television and enjoyed watching the players doing what they loved. As a younger girl she aspired to be a softball player, but decided to continue her studies after high school. At the age of sixteen, she began bowling. She bowled her entire life and she and her husband were members of the Odd Couples Bowling League in Medford. Carol also loved to gamble and travel to casinos, her favorites being Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods and Twin River. She was also an avid ticket scratcher, and loved the thrill of playing. Her family continues to find winning scratch tickets around the house. Carol’s legacy lives on through the people in her life. Her friends and family will continue to live their lives by her example of love and caring for others.

Carol was the beloved wife of Daniel N. Colangelo. The two married on September 24, 1972 in St. Clement Church, Medford. They shared forty-four loving years of marriage. She was the dear sister of Loretta Lennon, Richard LaCapria, and the late William LaCapria. Carol was the cherished aunt of many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Friday, August 25th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
