Maureen Kissoon, 72, of Mattapan, Massachusetts, formerly of Trinidad and Tobago, died peacefully in her sleep on August 17th, 2017, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston Massachusetts. Born December 22nd, 1944 in Trinidad and Tobago, she is predeceased by her parents Ceril and Rita Kissoon, and her eldest brother Noble Kissoon.
Maureen, also known as Moes, grew up in St. James, Trinidad, Port-of-Spain, where she was the youngest of 4 siblings, Noble, Euline, Edwina and Maureen. In those times, girls were not given much opportunity for schooling, and Moes was taken out of school by 3rd Standard (5th Grade). However, she had learned to write and took great pride in her handwriting skills. Young Moes loved mischief, and usually found herself in adventures that landed her in trouble with her mother, grandmother and even her siblings. As a young woman, Moes met a young man named Kirnon John with whom she spent 25 years and raised 4 kids.
Moes was a determined mother doing her best to ensure her children would have a good future. Making sacrifices to bring her children to America, she struggled and worked very hard, first as a Meat Packer, then as a Nurses Aid who took great pride in caring for her patients. She also enjoyed planting, cooking, and providing “Trini” counseling to her friends.
Moes is survived by her Sisters Euline Kissoon and Edwina Osbourne. Children Colin (Edna), Phillip, Zanifer and Lester John; Grand Children Rose, Caden, Mark, Wakiler, Suhaylah, Elizabeth, Jordan and Kasondra. Great Grand Children Makiah and Arianna, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at the St. John’s Chrysostom Parish, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury, MA 02132 at 11:00 am, on 8/24/2017, where the family will be greeting friends and relatives. Following the mass, there will be a Trini style lunch in the Parish Center.
