Obituary



WORCESTER- Virginia M. (Flynn) Johnson passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2017 while vacationing on Cape Cod. She was 89.

Her husband of 56 years, Kenneth E. Johnson passed away in 2009.

Virginia was born in Worcester on November 3, 1927 a daughter to the late James and Mary (Sheehan) Flynn. She was raised in Worcester and graduated from Ascension High School. For many years she worked for Norton Company and Thom McAn Shoe. Virginia volunteered many hours of her time cuddling newborn infants in the neonatal unit of Saint Vincent Hospital and as a reader at the Greendale Library. Mrs. Johnson was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching all of their games. She also enjoyed reading, writing calligraphy and playing cards with friends. Above all else, family meant the most to her.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth J. Johnson of Alaska and James M. Johnson of New Milford, CT; a daughter, Diane M. Derrah of West Boylston; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including Maureen Wooldridge, with whom she lived; and many extended family members.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Virginia Ann Johnson; six siblings, James, John, Mary Gertrude, Rosaleen, Kathleen and Hazel.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Virginia’s life by gathering for visiting hours on Monday, August 21st from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 11:00am at St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
