Obituary

Caples, Patrick (“Paddy”) John 50, of Norwood formerly of Dedham, died unexpectedly on August 16, 2017. Taken from us by a heart attack, Patrick’s passing leaves his family and friends saddened by the loss of a kind and special man, a friend to all, stranger to none.

Patrick was born in Dedham, MA on June 16, 1967. He went to school and spent his entire life in the Dedham-Norwood community gathering lifelong friends along the way. He loved life, laughed well and often, and found joy in simple and good things: the love of family and friends; a job well done; a beloved animal well cared for; April’s delicious dinners; watching any and all Boston sports on TV. For Paddy, there was nothing better than to gather friends in his “backyard Riviera” with something hot on the grill and cold in your hand. The best of storytellers, he had an audience wherever he went. Nobody impersonated Johnny Most better than he. As Patrick often said, “When Paddy leaves the party, the party’s over!” Well, dearest man, sweetest brother and best friend, the party ended for all of us who love you on August 16th. We miss you so.

To all his buddies and friends, thank you for enriching his life, sharing the good and bad times, the Super bowls (or not); World Series (or not); Stanley Cups (or not), life’s gains and losses with him. You know he loved you. A testament to one’s life is that while in your company or after having left your company, people feel “more than” having spent time with you. That was Patrick, a “more than” person.

Patrick was preceded in death by father Warren John Caples, mother Irene Curran Caples and sister Lynda Ann Caples. He is survived by two sisters, Joan (Harold) Goss and Nancy (William) Hollar, his dear friend and mate April Bell; nieces Amanda (Marcus) Parlier and Brittany (Justin) Black; nephew Grayson Doherty; great nieces Elaina and Emilia Parlier; and his beloved 4 legged buddy Duke.

Visitation beginning at 5pm on Monday Aug. 21st at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham MA 02026 with services at 6:15pm. Friends are invited to a celebration of life at Conrad’s Restaurant in Norwood, 7 - 9 p.m. Please come with a story or two to celebrate Paddy and the laughter and love he brought to our lives. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and The MS Society.
