TEWKSBURY - Mr. Donald A. “Don” Fougere, age 89, died peacefully Sunday evening, August 13, at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford, after a brief period of declining health. He was the beloved husband for sixty-one years of Jacqueline M. “Jackie” (Holland) Fougere, who died in January 2015.
Don was born in Medford in September 1927, one of four children of the late Henry and Florence (Boudreau) Fougere, raised in Medford and graduated form Medford High School with the Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Army following WWII, and later attended Northeastern University. After his marriage to Jackie, they moved to Tewksbury in 1954 to raise their family. Don had been in residence at Heatherwood for the last two years, where he was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Heatherwood.”
Don was active in sports throughout his life, talented in baseball, softball, hockey, and bowling at the old Wamesit lanes. He played softball in the travelling Tewksbury Senior League, umpired baseball, and retired from refereeing Youth Hockey at age 75.
As a devout Catholic Layman, he served St. William’s Parish as a Eucharistic Minister, was past president of St. William’s Holy Name Society, a former member of the couples club, a member of the Interfaith Choir, and a member of the St. William’s Men’s Club which oversees Friday Bingo for the Parish. He was also a Charter Member of the Fr. Coppen’s Council Knights of Columbus, 4336.
In his senior years, he and Jackie were very active at the Tewksbury Senior Center, a member of the Golden Age Club, and a member of the “Swinging Seniors” choral group.
Don worked as a dispatcher for McLean Trucking in Woburn, and retired as a Court Officer at Middlesex County Superior Court in Lowell.
He is survived by four children, Susan A. Egan and her husband Kevin of Bedford, Stephen M. Fougere of Stowe, VT, Mark J. Fougere and his wife Ruthie (Guttesman) of Milford, NH, and Glen A. Fougere and his wife Cathleen (Ouellette) of Rowley, MA; nine grandchildren, Catherine LaCroix and her husband Christopher of NH, Keith Egan DO of D.C., Jocelyn Rossi and her husband Scott of Belmont, Jacob Fougere of VT, Daniel Fougere and Nicole Fougere both of NH, Emily Fougere, Jack Fougere, and Benjamin Fougere all of Rowley; two great grandchildren, Carter and Avery; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his siblings, Francis and Edward Fougere and Marcella Herra.

His funeral will begin Friday, Aug. 18, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte.38) Tewksbury.
