Obituary

John Hal Belbin, 76, passed away at home surrounded  by his family and his loving service dog Suzan. He had a long battle with cancer. He is now peaceful with Sonia Leslie, his girlfriend and his oldest son Andrew. Hal was born and raised in Dorchester, the son of Gordon and Gertrude Belbin of Plymouth. Hal is survived by his sister Helen O'Keefe, niece Linda and husband Lee of Whitman. His children Susan Anastasio; Patricia Mehtala; Robert Belbin and wife Kathy and his cousin Marie McCoy of Holbrook . He has six grandchildren, two nieces, two great nieces and a great nephew. Hal worked at the Quincy Shipyard for 12 years and 35 years as a "Tin Knocker" sheet metal worker for Local 17. As a Free Mason he earned the rank 32nd degree from Tri Town Masonic lodge. He spent a short time in the Air Force. He started the Dull Men's Group of Pembroke, which continues today. Hal loved the sea, spending many days on "Jody" his sailboat. He camped, fished, danced, karaoke, flew his model plane, traveled and enjoyed his life on his own terms. Our family would like to specially thank Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth, 36 Cordage Park, Suite 326 Plymouth MA, 02360, for all of their help in his/ our time of need. Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke on Friday, August 18, from 4:00 to 7:00PM.
