Betty Sumerford Kickliter, 92, of Tifton, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017. Her funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Kickliter will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born June 21, 1925 in Desoto, Mrs. Kickliter was the daughter of the late William Harold Sumerford and Sidney Bedingfield Sumerford. On August 24, 1947, Mrs. Kickliter married Ralph Edward Kickliter, who also predeceased her in 2005.
Mrs. Kickliter, a lifelong educator in Georgia public schools, graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University) in Milledgeville. She taught in the public school systems in Lyons, Tifton and Milledgeville.
Mrs. Kickliter is survived by her son, Hal Kickliter of Atlanta; daughter, Carole Kickliter Wiles (Kirk) of Huntsville, Alabama; her grandsons, Villie Kirkpatrick “Patrick” Wiles III of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Philip Kickliter Wiles (Rachel) of Huntsville, Alabama; and great grandchildren Eleanor Elizabeth Wiles, Emerson Leigh Wiles and Asa Ellison Wiles, all of Huntsville, Alabama.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Maple Court Senior Residence for the care Betty received during the fifteen years she resided there. In addition, the family wishes to thank all the caregivers of Georgia Living Senior Care who took care of Betty during the last year.
